A timely story from our resident, Sam

An Easter Miracle

By Samantha Tankersley

Once, in an old town village house there lived an elderly lady named Doris. Doris was a kind, caring and courageous lady; everybody loved her for her big, kind heart. Doris lived alone in her house with two cats, a dog and a parrot. The cats were named Marney and Barney; the dog was named Max; and the parrot was named Shelly.

Doris took great care of her pets. She worked hard; prayed  to God every day to let her lead someone to Christ. Doris was a dedicated Christian. She loved Jesus!

But then one day she got extremely ill.  Doris had gotten the flu, and she ended up on life support. She didn't give up on her faith, however. For whatever she faced, she would not give up on God, because she believed God would never give up on her.

As Doris lied in her hospital bed, a person - a 12-year-old girl named Sarah - wanted to ask her about Jesus. Sarah was curious to hear Doris' story.

"Excuse me, ma'am," Sarah says quietly. "Can we talk?" She was in tears.

"Sure," Doris says, kindly, "What's on your mind, sweetheart?"

"It's almost Easter. What's Easter?" she anxiously asked.

"Easter is a holiday about our Lord Savior Jesus Christ. He gave his life so that we may be forgiven of our sins and go to heaven," Doris says. He did that for you and me, and for everybody in the world."

"Why would he do that for you and me?"

"Because he loves you that much. He wouldn't have it any other way." Doris smiles. "Would you like to try to accept him as your savior?"

"Please," Sarah pleads. Sarah prays to Jesus to save her from sin and become a Christian. Doris had done it: she had led someone to Christ.

Ssrah leaves laughing and saying,"I accepted Jesus."

Two years have passed. Sarah and Doris cross paths on a missionary trip.

"Doris?"

"Sarah?"

The two hug. "How are you, Sarah?" Doris asks, excitedly.

"Great. I've led over 200 hundred people to Christ."

"Wow!" Doris smiles. "God is good, isn't he?"

"Yep," Sarah smiles, contentedly.

"That all happened on Easter?" Doris asks.

"Yes. Easter is Jesus' celebration of redemption, so I did it on Easter.

"Great job, Sarah. Well done."

The End
